What is Bitcoin dollar cost averaging?

Dollar cost averaging (DCA) means investing a fixed amount of money at regular intervals — say, $50 on the first of every month — regardless of whether the price is up or down. Instead of trying to time the perfect entry, you spread your buys across months and years. When Bitcoin is cheap your $50 buys more BTC; when it is expensive it buys less. Over time this averages out your cost per coin and removes the single hardest problem in investing: guessing the right moment to get in.

This calculator simulates exactly that. It combines our curated dataset of Bitcoin's monthly opening prices going back to July 2013 with the live Bitcoin price from CoinGecko, and simulates one buy at each month's opening price from your chosen start date until today. You see the total you would have invested, the BTC you would have stacked, your average cost per coin versus today's price, and a chart comparing your steadily growing contributions against the value of the position — including the long stretches where the position was underwater before a bull run changed everything.

DCA is how most long-term Bitcoin holders actually accumulate, because it turns volatility from an enemy into an ally and takes emotion out of the decision. Compare the results with a one-time lump-sum investment to see how the two approaches differ across different market cycles. And if you want to go beyond passive accumulation, our crypto trading strategies cover active approaches, risk management, and automation for when you are ready to take on more.
